Job description:
This part-time position (20hrs+/wk) is a combination of Tier 1/Tier 2
Support, Server Provisioning, and Linux/BSD system administration for
growing Dedicated Server Hosting business. You will work directly with
and learn from experienced Unix, Internet and Security Engineers.
Daily duties may include:
- Resolving inbound email-based support requests
- Provisioning new servers with FreeBSD, OpenBSD, CentOS/RHEL, Debian,
Ubuntu and other operating systems to customer specifications
- Upgrading / replacing server hardware
- Upgrading / patching server operating systems and software
- Adding / modifying monitoring configs for customers systems
- Improving / Modifying / Documenting systems, processes, and
procedures
- Add/Change DNS records
- Improving / Verifying backups and other automated processes
Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate will be customer service oriented, have excellent
written (email) and verbal communication skills, be able to work
autonomously, and be able to have a flexible work schedule (Students
welcome).
The ideal candidate have excellent professional and personal
references, never have been convicted of a misdemeanor or felony, is a
non-smoker. You must have a CA drivers license and reliable car or
truck.
You should have at least some formal education relating to TCP/IP,
networking, programming or scripting in the Unix environment. IT/IS/CS
related degree or certification a plus, but not required. Current
students welcome, especially CS or IS students.
You should have a working knowledge of the Unix command line interface,
TCP/IP, the OSI reference model, vi, DNS/BIND, and PC hardware.
You should like to fix things, build things, solve problems and find
better ways to do things.
